Kestrel here……..
With,….
Notes from the pack.
Hi, my name is Kestrel.
I’m a golden retriever. I’m a bird dog. You probably could have guessed that from my name and the kind of dog I am. I’m seven years old now and the oldest, wisest dog of our pack. The other two are Taiga ( a true Alaskan name) and Roona. Roona is Arabic for “happiness”.
Our true pack is actually nine strong. Two humans, us three dogs and four horses.
The horses, Bruja in particular, asked me to write here on Substack. Bru writes here on Mondays, you’ve probably seen her posts. Bru gave me pictures in my head and taught me to write so other humans could know how we ( the pack ) live and think and feel in the dog world. You’ll get to see the world through my eyes and ears and feelings.
You may have noticed that Bru has a kinda funny way of talking / writing. Horses don’t understand human spoken words like dogs do. We dogs understand lots more of the spoken words and names. The horses know their own names and their horse herd names but human names and words get kinda fuzzy in their heads. This is ok. Horses understand the spirit and the emotional world extremely well and have great power there.
We dogs understand the spirit world too, just some different from horses and humans. I’m sure we will dive into that at times.
I came to this pack seven years ago when things were quite different. I was the puppy then when there was Tozi and Kalli. Tozi was a pure Bernese Mountain dog. She was small for a Bernese Mountain dog. Tozi was the oldest and lived to be fourteen years old. Her body wore out and she had to go to the spirit world. She was the kindest dog ever and sensitive too.
Kalli was half Bernese Mountain dog and half Golden retriever. It was wonderful back then with both ends of the spectrum covered and one in the middle. Kalli was super smart. She was so smart she taught herself tricks! She knew how to open doors and close them too. Kalli was a large dog of about a hundred pounds. Almost pure black with one little spot of white on her chest and the tip of her lower jaw had a little white on it. Kalli also had to leave her body. The Bernese mountain dog in her gave her cancer and even though she desperately did not want to go, there was no choice. Her body just couldn’t keep living. She dearly loved her pack.
We three loved being a pack with our humans and the horses. The horses were different back then too. There was Eva, Shadar and Moon. Eva and Shadar left their bodies for the spirit world too. Moon is still here and mostly happy and healthy at twenty six years of age.
The two humans of our pack now are Sonja and Tom. They are old compared to us. They have been together as a pack for a long long time and really do love each other. They love us too. That makes us really happy.
Ok, so,…. I am going to post on here once in a while. I won’t be on a schedule like Bru does. I’ll just pop in when I have something to say. It should be fun.
Right now the five of us are all on the bed and it is sleep time. We dogs love being in a big pile with our humans on the big bed. The four horses always stay outside of course. They don’t fit in the house!
Next time I will tell you more about Taiga and Roona and the horses. In posts to come I will also tell you about things like the big trip we went on and going to the beach or the lake and stuff like that.
Im snuggled up against Sonja now and drifting off to sleep cuz it’s late and dark out.
I hope you sleep as well as I do and have nice dreams.
May you be happy. ( Bru taught me and told me to say that to you, shes a sorceress horse and very wise too )
Soon Again, look for “Notes from the Pack”
