Your Monday ( Tuesday ) Morning Bru!

Spring is truly here now. The only ice and snow are bits left in dark places or where the snow was piled up from the noisy wheel machine that came a few times during winter. It pushes snow around in the driveway. The one ( used to be) big pile is almost all melted and gone.

Im looking for the first green shoots of the year. My mom showed me where to look in amongst the old dead grass from last summer. Right next to the ground and covered by old brown grass I can find the new. Sometimes there is green grass that stayed green under the snow and old grass all winter. It doesn’t have the good fresh taste of growing spring grass but it is better than the old brown grass.

Yesterday He was not here for breakfast. That made me sad but She brought breakfast and told me He would be home later. He had more human stuff to do that was important. She was gone for most of the day too. Since we have herd, we are good without our humans around. Also, They keep in touch with us by distance “feel” too. Not all humans can do this. Distance “feel” is that invisible connection between spirits. Most humans have forgotten how to do it. They ignore the spirit connection threads because they don’t understand or remember. They can’t see it with their eyes so they don’t think it’s real.

We didn’t do riding this week. He and I didn’t anyway. A couple of days ago He brought out our hackamores. He put mine hanging on a place by the tack shed. I was a bit jealous when He put luna’s hackamore on her. He did promise to come back for me when He was done with her. He led her to the tack shed and put on her bareback pad and then went into the round pen.

She was walking ( leading) with Moon headed towards the house. I was watching of course, I keep track of everything that is happening all the time. Keeping aware is something horses do. It keeps us alive when scary stuff is happening. In the wild this is especially important.

He did fun stuff like liberty with Luna in the round pen and then went and stood on the mounting block. Luna stepped up to the mounting block of course so He could get on. He made mouth sounds when He was sitting on her telling her how good she was and how happy He was with her. Luna has gotten really comfortable with riding. They then followed She and Moon walking down the driveway. They kept walking on the street. It’s SO nice to not have ice! We can do walks now.

They weren’t gone very long and when they all were back, He let Luna loose in our big paddock and got me. As usual, I helped Him get my hackamore on. I love my hackamore. He got it just for me. Luna has her own that’s a bit different and she likes hers better for her. We like our own hackamores best because they have some special energy He has put in them, just for each of us.

When He and I went to the round pen, we did our usual bit of pre-ride play. I was feeling a bit funny, not bad, just off a bit. When He stepped up on the mounting block so He could get on, I said no. He asked several times, but, I just wasn’t feeling it so I didn’t go to the block for Him. This didn’t upset Him, He listens to me to understand how I’m feeling. He said ok and took off my hackamore. He told me that this was ok and I could go back to the paddock. When He got my halter, I saw that and trotted to Him to show I was thankful He listened to me and that I wasn’t unhappy. Im not sure why I didn’t want to do riding, it just felt right not to. I can’t remember when I last said no to riding. Im glad He understands. I AM a mare after all and I do have my own agenda, even if I don’t understand it myself sometimes. Im lucky that He honors my opinions and feelings. I‘ll put riding pictures in his head today maybe and see what happens.

It’s sunny this morning and we are still waiting for breakfast. It feels like a day for naps in the sun. Oh yeah, the round pen is all unfrozen now too. The sand in there is GREAT for rolling in. We like that.
